Olympique Lyonnais is in mourning after the passing of Bernard Lacombe, Tuesday, at the age of 72.

Who was Bernard Lacombe?

Bernard Lacombe was an iconic player for Olympique Lyonnais, having played for the club between 1969 and 1978.

He won a French Cup in 1973 and was detected at the club of Fontaines-sur-Saône before making his professional debut at OL.

His legacy

Lacombe is the second top scorer in the history of the French championship with 255 goals scored in 497 matches.

He also played for the French national team, with 38 selections and a European Championship title in 1984.

Tributes have poured in after the announcement of Bernard Lacombe's passing. « It is with immense sadness that we learned of the death of Bernard Lacombe on Tuesday evening », OL said in a statement. Jacques Santini, who knew him since their selections in the French junior national team in 1968, reacted: « I just lost a friend beyond all sporting considerations ».
